The cartoner or saying cartoning packaging machine is one kind of packaging machine that opens cartons from a pre-glued side seam blank. It stands the carton up so that the product can be inserted manually or automatically, and then the carton is closed and sealed with tuck or glue. There are two types of cartoning machines:
1. The horizontal or end-load automatic cartoning machine pulls a carton blank from the magazine, opens the carton horizontally, and then fills it manually or automatically. Individual products (e.g. pallets or bags) or multiple products can be sorted and loaded manually or through the open end of the carton using an automatic barrel cam loader. After loading, the end caps are folded or glued, depending on the application.
2. A vertical cartoner packaging machine pulls a carton blank from the magazine and opens it vertically. Single or multiple products can be sorted and loaded manually or automatically through the open end of the carton. After loading, the end caps also are folded or glued depending on the uses or demand.
